Rochester, NY- Mayor Malik D. Evans joined Ibero-American Development Corporation to celebrate the completion of the Pueblo Nuevo Group Street Rehabilitation Project, a major infrastructure investment in the CONEA neighborhood of Rochester’s Northeast Quadrant.
The project reconstructed and rehabilitated streets surrounding Pueblo Nuevo I and II, featuring 104 new affordable housing units developed by Ibero-American Development Corporation. The City’s continued investment ensures that the new homes are complemented by safe, modern, and reliable street infrastructure.
“The built environment should reliably serve residents in their everyday lives,” said Mayor Evans. “These improvements may fade into the backdrop of daily routines, but they elevate neighborhoods, make life easier, and reflect our deep commitment to investing in people and place. The Pueblo Nuevo project is part of a larger strategy to strengthen Rochester’s communities through targeted, impactful investments.”“IADC’s commitment to building neighborhoods does not begin or end with the development of affordable housing and other community-serving facilities. It includes facilitating participation, organizing, and empowering residents, as well as fostering the development of strong and fruitful partnerships,” said Eugenio Marlin.
The project included:
Sullivan Street (North Clinton Ave to Joseph Ave) – Reconstruction
Hoeltzer Street (North Clinton Ave to Joseph Ave) – Reconstruction
O’Brien Street (West End to Joseph Ave) – Rehabilitation
Kappel Place (West End to North Clinton Ave) – Milling and Resurfacing
Additional improvements included new granite curbs, sidewalk replacement, pavement reconstruction, water and drainage upgrades, and restoration of green spaces with new trees and shrubs.
The Pueblo Nuevo I and II project was built on the City’s broader commitment to revitalization in Northeast section of the city, including investments at the International Plaza, the Buy The Block initiative, and the First Genesis single-family homes. Together, these efforts are strengthening the foundation of one of Rochester’s most historic neighborhoods, which is home to landmarks such as St. Michael’s Church, Genesee Brewery, and the Coca-Cola Bottling Company.
