Monroe County Announces New Paid Parental Leave for County Employees
Monroe County has established a new paid parental leave policy for full-time county employees.
The new benefit will provide up to 4 weeks of paid time off for bonding with a child.
This leave will be available to full-time employees beginning on Oct. 1, 2023. New parents must use the leave within the first 12 months of their child’s birth or the adoption of a child up to age 18 years.
“No one should be forced to choose between paying their bills and taking care of their baby. The bonds formed during those precious early moments with a new child are irreplaceable,“ Monroe County Executive Adam Bello said. “Creating a family-friendly culture for county employees is a priority of my administration; we are investing in the well-being of our team members and their families.”
He added, “This common sense policy helps us create and maintain a workplace culture that is supportive of employees, both inside and outside of the workplace.”
“As a father myself, I know firsthand the arrival of a new child is a pivotal time in one’s life. This move demonstrates to the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office, and all county employees, they are supported. This new benefit also offers another recruitment tool as we remain competitive when trying to attract new members,” said Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter.
